SKY Soccer is Excited to Announce our New Outreach Program, Get On The Bus!

Exciting News!! SKY Soccer Club is excited to officially announce our newest outreach program, Get On The Bus! With the help of the Get on the Bus Foundation, US Youth Soccer, Kentucky Youth Soccer Association, and Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation, we will be launching this program in March 2023!

Get on the Bus (GOTB) is an exciting, FREE afterschool program open to 5th and 6th grade students at our pilot school, Warren Elementary. Get On The Bus means:

  • Once a week, players will receive a free afterschool snack, complete his/her homework, and participate in a short, fun healthy play activity to promote a healthy and active lifestyle (for example, the importance of drinking water or playing outside everyday).

  • After snack and homework, your child will have soccer practice at a determined location with school staff members or coaches who are trained in teaching and mentoring young student athletes.

  • Transportation will be arranged if parents cannot pick up.

  • Your child will be playing in the recreational league of SKY Soccer. Games will be played at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex on Saturdays. There will be bus transportation to Lovers Lane Soccer Complex for GOTB players only (family and friends are encouraged to come to games but must provide their own transportation).

  • All league fees, equipment (shin guards, socks, cleats) uniforms and soccer balls will be provided by SKY Soccer Club with the help of local and national partnerships.

Meet Get on the Bus, SKY’s Partner organization, who’s bringing the wonderful game of soccer to students at title one schools in hopes of creating a more equitable community, here at home, and across the country. This giving season coincides with soccer’s biggest event, the World Cup. What better way to celebrate than by creating access to the future leaders of the game and our communities? We can’t help to think how many players representing their countries this year started kicking the ball around with neighborhood friends and had the same drive as the children we aim to provide opportunity to.

Just this year, GOTB has been able to serve 168 children across the nation.

As we celebrate the successes of global unity and good sportsmanship this season, we are reminded why we partnered with the Get on the Bus program. Every child deserves their own world cup moment and to reap the benefits of this great game beyond the pitch. You may have heard that the World Cup is coming to the United States in 2026 and GOTB has a goal to reach 10,000 new participants by World Cup 2026! We hope our state can continue to expand the program for years to come.

We are so excited for the future or this program and the potential it has for our entire community. We are looking forward to working with Warren County Public Schools and Bowling Green Independent School District to expand this program to other areas of the county.
