Southern Kentucky Soccer Club

SKY SC Academy (U13-U19)

This program is designed for boys and girls in the U13-U19 age groups who desire an increased level of training and more competitive playing environment. Our players come from the Western KY area to take advantage of the training offered to SKY Academy teams. Our certified professional coaching and training staff is proud of its playing history and coaching education. The SKY Academy was designed to enhance our player’s ability and comfort on the ball through repetitive technical training. Our focus is to develop a love for the game, as well as laying the foundation for players to be successful in high school, college, and the Olympic Development Program.

Teams train twice weekly (3 times per week depending on the time of year) and compete in the Kentucky Premier League (KPL), Midwest Regional League (MRL), tournaments and college showcase events. Additionally, teams will participate in the State Open Cup or Presidents Cup.

SKY SC Academy expects players who represent the club to maintain high standards of personal behavior both on and off the field. We place great importance on academics and expect players to organize their activities to accommodate both schoolwork and soccer at high levels of achievement. We look to parents to ensure that their SKY Academy players reach games and practices on time, attend whenever possible with a positive attitude, and participate in the volunteering to help the club in some capacity.

Age Group

The U.S. Youth Soccer Association groups players into competitive age groups. Age groups will be based on a player’s birth year.  The Executive Director of Coaching will make all decisions on player movement or whether players play up on an older team.

Playing Season

Competitive soccer teams play for two seasons, fall and spring, which make up one seasonal year.  For U13-U14 players, this comprises the fall and the spring season.  Fall training begins in August and should run until November.  The Spring Season will begin in March and run until the team has completed the State Open Cup.  For our state champions they will play until the Region 2 Championships in late June. Additional opportunities for indoor play are available in the Winter months, and players are encouraged to take advantage of those opportunities.

For U15-U19 players, they will begin training in November for Showcase events.  They will have January- February off from competitive games and will resume training for Spring late February or early March.  They will train until they have completed the State Open Cup.  For our state champions they will play until the Region 2 Championships in late June.

U13-U19 Program Commitment

The training environment is where the players will grow in their technique and it is vital that they attend all training sessions. Occasionally, conflicts arise in which the participant cannot attend a practice.  It is the responsibility of the player to make up the missed session with another team in the club.
By accepting a place on a SKY Academy team roster, a player commits to play the full seasonal year, June through May.  Other activities (music lessons, other sports, homework, vacations, etc.) should be considered before committing to competitive programs to avoid significant interruption of the required practice and game schedule.

Evaluations for U13-19 teams are held in May/June each year for the coming soccer seasonal year.  It is imperative that players attend tryouts for the SKY Academy Program.  Recreational players can join SKY Academy at any time during the year.  As long as you are not registered with another club you are free to tryout for the SKY Academy Program. Players registered with another travel club through KYSA or TSSA must obtain a release from their current club before any discussions about playing opportunities can be held.

During the tryout period, your child will be evaluated by the coaching staff in various group activities.  The staff will evaluate players based on technical ability, tactical understanding, physical ability, and mental concepts of the game.  This criterion is evaluated along with consideration as to how and where that individual’s ability will best fit in order to foster continued learning, improvement and further a competitively challenged environment.  Once this is determined over the course of the tryouts, your child may be offered a position with a team. The offering of positions on teams begins immediately following the completion of tryouts.  Be prepared with decision options upon be contacted by the coaching staff.
